UNICEF Representative to Sultanate of Oman
H.E. Lana Al Wreikat was appointed UNICEF Representative to the Sultanate of Oman on 21 September 2017. With more than 20 years of service in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia regions, Ms. Al Wreikat has extensive experience in international affairs and development, global issues, program management, emergency response, resource mobilization and partnerships. Prior to this appointment she served as UNICEF’s head of office in Gaziantep and Senior Emergency Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa (MENARO).
Ms. Al Wreikat served as the Deputy Chief of the Regional Emergency and Humanitarian Unit in UNICEF’s Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) where she was UNICEFs focal point at the Regional Inter- Agency Coordination Support Office (RIACSO) for the Southern Africa crises and humanitarian affairs. She has also held various leadership positions within UNICEF in Jordan, Iran, Tajikistan, Libya, Mozambique and at UNICEF Headquarters in New York.
Prior to joining UNICEF, Ms. Al Wreikat served in the United Nations University and in the private sector within one of the Middle East’s largest ICT solution providers, in the MENA region where she developed and managed e-learning and distance education programs. Ms. Al Wreikat is passionate about ensuring every child and young person has access to quality education and grows up in a safe and supportive environment that fosters growth and innovation for the betterment of the world.
